Lazecom Trading PLC (Ethiopia) – Global E-Commerce Platform

Engagement: Product Development Team – End-to-end launch of a global e-commerce platform for an Ethiopian exporter.

Challenge & Risks: Lazecom needed a fast, secure online store to enter international markets. Its previous site was basic (lacked transactional capability). Key challenges included integrating payment gateways, scaling for global traffic, and meeting international standards (ISO/PCI compliance). Delays would mean missing critical trade season deadlines.

Kontorva Solution: Kontorva assembled a team of 7 senior engineers (2 back-end, 2 front-end, 1 DevOps, 1 security, 1 QA; assumption) in 48 hours. We started with a joint planning session: defining microservices (shopping cart, inventory, user accounts) and setting sprint goals. We enforced a strict Definition of Done: every feature required automated tests and documentation. DevOps was implemented from day one, with Terraform for infrastructure-as-code in AWS.

Key Deliverables:

  • Scalable E‑Commerce Platform: Developed on Magento 2 (PHP) for shopfront, with custom AWS Lambda functions for dynamic pricing.
  • Internationalization: Multi-currency and multi-language support (USD, EUR, ETB; English, Amharic).
  • Robust Backend: Central inventory and order management service (Node.js) with MySQL, capable of handling 100k+ SKUs.
  • Training & Handover: Conducted workshops on platform operations for Lazecom’s team, ensuring they could manage the store post-launch.

Outcomes & Metrics: Kontorva’s intervention enabled a 60% faster launch (site live in 6 weeks vs. a typical 15-week rollout). Within two months of launch, global site traffic rose 75% and time on site tripled (users engaged deeper). Crucially, uptime was 99.97% from day one (using automated failover). As a result, Lazecom secured several international orders in the first quarter – a milestone it had missed in prior years. Leadership noted that the platform’s robustness was “ready to compete globally.”

Operational Scope & Exit: This was a fixed-scope project with clear milestone sign-offs. Kontorva provided end-to-end service (all developer hiring, infrastructure, and management). We defined an exit once the platform passed a full UAT and a 4-week pilot period. Post-exit, Kontorva arranged knowledge transfer: all CI/CD scripts and runbooks were handed over. (Assumed continued support: SLA contract for bug fixes, 99.9% uptime guarantee.)
