Stravika (Estonia) – Humanitarian Logistics Platform

Engagement: Custom Software Development (Cross-Platform MVP) – Rapid build of Merelink, a logistics coordination platform for NGOs.

Challenge & Risks: This was a crisis-response project: the platform needed to launch in 3 months to support operations in Sudan, Ukraine and elsewhere. Requirements were complex (real-time sync, offline mode, multi-language), and the stakes were high – delays could disrupt critical aid delivery. The platform had to scale quickly (anticipated 500+ users) and adhere to the highest reliability standards (near-100% uptime, data accuracy).

Kontorva Solution: Kontorva assembled a dedicated, vetted team within 72 hours: 3 senior mobile/web devs, 2 backend engineers, and 2 QA/DevOps specialists (total 7; assumption: all senior in this urgent case). We performed an initial Proof-of-Concept in the first week to validate core technologies (React Native with Firebase real-time DB). The team worked in synchronized sprints, deploying incrementally. We set up a continuous integration pipeline that ran across all platforms (Android, iOS, web) with automated end-to-end testing. Security and data integrity were paramount: we built multi-factor auth and encrypted offline data storage.

Key Deliverables:

  • Cross-Platform MVP: Simultaneous web, iOS and Android apps using a shared React Native codebase. Key features included real-time inventory tracking, offline mission modes, and multi-language support.
  • Cloud Backend: Scalable Firebase backend supporting 24/7 sync, integrated with a Node.js middleware for business logic.
  • Quality Assurance: Rigorous automated test suite (unit, UI, fault injection) ensuring the app could handle intermittent connectivity without data loss.
  • DevOps & Monitoring: CI/CD pipelines deploying to AWS (for web) and App Stores; integrated monitoring dashboards to track errors and user activity in real time.

Outcomes & Metrics: Kontorva delivered the MVP in 12 weeks (meeting the tight deadline) and secured NGO adoption across 6 countries within 6 months. Users in pilot programs (450+ aid workers) reported 92% on usability surveys. Cost-wise, the project ran 20% under a typical RFP budget by leveraging shared code and agile reuse (savings reinvested into advanced features). The platform’s uptime from launch was 99.8% (across all regions), a critical success given conflict-zone challenges. Importantly, this project also unlocked funding: partner NGOs noted our delivery efficiency when extending grants.

Operational Scope & Exit: Given the humanitarian context, this was a fixed-scope project with clear deliverables. Kontorva defined an “exit structure” up front: upon delivering a fully-tested MVP and completing NGO training, the contract allowed a phased handover. Kontorva managed all operational complexity (global hires, compliance, etc.) throughout. Post-delivery, we offered 30 days of on-call support for unexpected issues (after which support could be extended via maintenance agreement). All source code, CI/CD configurations, and architecture docs were transferred to Stravika, fulfilling our accountability guarantee.
